Instructional Design and Engaged Learning

Module Seven - Building Lessons with Visuals

In this activity, you will create a slam dunk digital lesson using medical illustrations from this mega-list in Sweden or you may employ a source that you already know, use and trust.

To keep this first lesson simple, you may copy the text below into your word processor and use it as a template. You will need to modify the words to fit the particular images you have identified as well as the thinking task you have in mind. Be aware that certain types of images may require more analysis and consideration than others. Some images will provoke more thought, seem more intriguing and leave more room for judgment and/or disagreement than others.

1. Start by figuring out what is shown in each of the six frames taken from a computer simulation. What is depicted? What changes take place?

2. How would you rate the effectiveness of these visuals in communicating a complex idea?

3. What are the most important new insights that you gained from these illustrations?

4. How would you rate these illustrations in comparison with others in this article with regard to their value in adding to your understanding of an important battlefield medical issue?

5. Would you recommend that this article be suggested reading for medics? Why or why not?
