The Snake: A River in Trouble?

Module 7

The Research Cycle

Where are we in the research process? It helps to have a model in mind that describes the stages one passes through when exploring a complex problem, issue or question.
We teach teams of students to move repeatedly through each of the first six stages of the Research Cycle below until they have developed sufficient insight to proceed to the final stage of reporting:
QUESTIONING
PLANNING
GATHERING
SORTING & SIFTING
SYNTHESIZING
EVALUATING

    (repeat cycle?)

> REPORTING

Read this article about the Research Cycle to see what each stage entails in the way of exploring a question.

Where are you and your partner in the process now?

Spend several minutes writing and thinking about the following question:

How might some kind of research model prove useful to you and your students?
