Creating Digital Portfolios Worthy
of the Time and Effort

Module Three - The Ambitious

One of the most ambitious digital portfolio projects ever attempted was launched by the Coalition of Essential Schools back in the early nineties.

This effort is worthy of some careful attention because it shows the potential of digital portfolios in their grandest forms but it also serves as a cautionary tale since there are case studies and stories from which today's schools might learn. We can avoid re-inventing the wheel and avoid repeating certain mistakes.

Consider each of the following online documents . . .

1. What do think of the three goals listed on the second page of The Digital Portfolio under the heading "Planning Backwards?" In what ways is this a sound planning approach to such a project?

2. In what ways does this project seem overly ambitious?

3. How might these two articles serve your school and district well?

Please do not move to the next module until asked to do so by the workshop leader.
