Module Six - Example Two - Decision Making

Following the strategy mentioned in the previous module of accomplishing a half dozen major goals with a single unit of study, consider the rich array of digital artifacts or products that might emerge when students are asked to make well informed choices.

The Assignment

Imagine your parents are moving to China for two years on a work assignment and you are coming with them. If they could select one of the following six cities, which one would you prefer? How would you decide? What would be your criteria? You are responsible for researching the key aspects of life in each of these cities and then making a persuasive presentation to your parents.

The student would have to pose "Telling Questions" for each category and then conduct research on each of these, converting findings into digital reporting formats.

If they decided that average annual rainfall was important, for instance, they might gather that statistic for each city and create a chart that would vividly compare the six cities.

Make a list of 10-12 digital products that might result during such research that could be incorporated into the presentation to the parents.

Please do not move to the next module until asked to do so by the workshop leader.
